Extrordinair is the first and only independent Animal Receiving Centre / Border Inspection Post for small animals AND conservation birds, approved by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), APHA (Animal Plant and Health Association) and the FVO (Food and Veterinary Office) in Scotland.

In the UK there are a total of 3 Border Control Posts for small animals located at;

  • Edinburgh
  • Gatwick
  • Heathrow

Whilst there is only 2 Border Control Post for conservation birds located at:

  • Edinburgh
  • Heathrow

When you are not travelling within 5 days of your pet, or its travel is not in relation to your own relocation it may only arrive in to the EU via a Border Inspection Post. Which means in Scotland, only our team of expert can help! You must still comply with the Pet Travel Scheme rules but in addition your pet must;

  • Be accompanied by an Annex I EU Health certificate.

This requirement also applies if you are;

  • Purchasing a puppy, kitten, dog or cat from a non-EU country
  • Rehoming a dog or cat from a non-EU country

Pets that fall in to the above categories must be processed via a Border Inspection Post. This is because they must be checked by an official veterinarian and this can only be achieved at a Border Inspection Post.

You can find information on applying for an Import License at www.gov.uk/pet-travel-quarantine. Should your pet travel with a Rabies Import License, it will not need to wait 3 months after the blood test to travel, however, it will undergo a period of quarantine in the UK which can be up to 4 months.

Not only is the Edinburgh Airport Border Control Post approved to process the above types or imports it is also certified to accept and check the following species of animals;

  • Amphibians
  • Pet Birds
  • Cats
  • Dogs
  • Ferrets
  • Lagomorphs
  • Reptiles
  • Rodents
  • Fish (not for human consumption)

Should it be a cat, dog or ferret that will be processed through the Border Control Post, you will need to complete an Annex I EU Health certificate.

If you are looking at bringing any other species into our Border Control Post, please contact us and we can assist you with obtaining the correct paperwork.
