We understand the value personal belongings have to their owners; whether that be sentimental or monetary, we’ll take care of them all the way

Below you will find some Frequently Asked Questions regarding the shipping of personal and household effects.

How do I pack my belongings?
All personal effects should be packed appropriately for air cargo. Good, solid boxes and/ or suitcases can be utilised.

Breakables should be packed tightly to avoid movement, and heavy items such as books should be evenly distributed. Overloaded items are more susceptible to damage in transport, so be mindful not to overpack.

What documentation do I need?
You will have to complete a packing list or inventory list and provide a copy of the photo page of your passport. Additional documents may be required before your shipment can leave the UK, subject to country of destination, but our team can help support you with everything you need. All relevant documentation must be received before your shipment is ready for transit.

Should I insure my goods?
Extrordinair do not provide insurance for personal effects, but it is advisable that you insure your consignment against loss or damage.

Extrordinair trade under the BIFA Standard Trading Conditions[AW1] and we’d encourage these to be read prior to shipping.

What items am I not allowed to send?
Cargo declared, as Personal Effects must NOT contain aerosols, batteries and flammable liquids, to name but a few. There are many items that constitute as Hidden Dangerous Goods that should not be shipped in your consignment. These could be in the form of Hair Curlers, Diving Equipment, Tools etc.

If you are in any doubt as to those items you cannot send, contact a member of the Extrordinair Team for friendly advice.

CUSTOMS CLEARANCE AT EDINBURGH AIRPORT
Should you require we also offer a Customs clearance service for your personal items which have arrived at Edinburgh Airport.

Note that if you are relocating to the UK you will require a ToR reference, this will allow goods that you have owned relief from VAT, if you do not have this VAT may be applicable, however you can apply for a VAT refund retrospectively

Once cleared through customs we can also arrange delivery to your home, giving you a hassle free collection from Edinburgh amongst the potential mayhem of relocating.
